FAQ

1

What hardware and software do I need to do the mentorship?

2

Do you offer refunds?

You generally need to have a computer that can run a 3D software such as Autodesk Maya/Motion Builder/Blender as well as Unreal Engine. We will also use Zoom and Syncsketch for our sessions together as well.

For Syncsketch you can create a free account at syncsketch.com

I recommend the use of Autodesk Maya as it has been the industry standard for several years and is used by majority of animation pipelines. If your aim is to work in video game animation, it is a good idea to become proficient with Maya HOWEVER if you opt to use a different software I am capable to tailor the mentoring and reviews around the software choice, BUT I may be less able to help deal with more technical aspects of your work.

If you order any service I provide on my website you have up until 12 hours before the scheduled time to cancel the review, no charge.

If you do not cancel a service before 12 hours of the scheduled session I won't be able to oblige your refund request.

I unfortunately cannot offer refunds after a review, workshop or mentoring session is already completed as I have taken the time and effort to prepare and deliver the service and I offer my expertise and advice in good faith.

I always welcome feedback and the most efficient way would be with me directly either in a session or via email.

3

Do you provide the software for the mentorship? Or software subscriptions and discounts?

4

Will I get a job after working with you?

Unfortunately I don't. The software used are all independent from me however we will do our best to use software that is free to use such as Blender or Unreal Engine but I do not provide any subscriptions or discounts to any of the software that requires a fee such as Autodesk Maya.

The best option for these paid software, if you opt to use them, is to try obtain a student license for personal use through your school/university or to obtain an indie/personal license for the duration of our mentorship together.

I do recommend the use of Autodesk Maya as the primary Animation authoring tool for the mentorship or workshop, as it is the industry standard, HOWEVER we can also work with other software such as Blender, if a paid subscription is not feasible.

What I try teach are the concepts around animation, so it is not software specific, however understandably any tips or tricks I use in Maya won't be able to be translated directly but we will do our best to work around these limitations together.

I wish I could guarantee such a thing but unfortunately I cannot. I cannot offer any guarantees in terms of employment, internship placements or professional success.

What I can help with is improving your animation skills, offer advice and networking tips, demo reel polishing and resume feedback. In the end finding work is a challenging aspect of being an animator or in any field especially a creative one and a lot comes down to luck and persistence.

I can guarantee though that I will be there to provide some support through your personal journey towards a career in video game animation.

5

Will I get a certificate after a mentorship with you?

6

Will we use motion capture in your mentorship or workshops?

No you will not receive a certificate from a mentorship with me. Mentoring is not a substitute for animation courses taught by accredited schools.

What I offer are services centered around improving your skills and growing your understanding of gameplay animation through recorded review sessions, animation workshops and 1 on 1 mentoring. It is solely for personal and professional development.

Mentoring is designed to help animators take their skills further, make their demo reels more attractive and becoming more marketable as an animator to studios.

It is preferable that you begin the mentoring or animation workshops when you already have a base level of understanding of animation. The mentorship does not guarantee a degree or any form of employment.

If you wish to improve your skills with motion capture or learn how to use it efficiently we can do that as part of the mentoring or animation workshops.

Just let me know this is a specific goal of yours when we have our discovery call or anytime during our mentorship together.

However I do not provide motion capture myself directly so we would need to source the motion capture from free resources online.
